Hi, I am preparing for GATE 2018 for Mechanical Engineering. I aspire to do masters in mechanical engineering. I want to ask about the future scope of Masters in Mechanical Management? In general, what are the areas in which there is a scope of a better future in mechanical engineering after a masters degree?

Eternal learner

Thanks Sir for the reply. So this means, for MEM, I need to look for studies abroad.

Mechanical Engineer by education, Entrepreneur by heart. Day by day nothing is changing but when we look behind, everything is different.

Hey Tarun!

Thanks for your question. I see that you have asked about the scope of Masters in Mechanical Management. Well this course is for those mechanical engineers who wish to combine a deeper knowledge of mechanical engineering with a specialised skill in areas of business administration. People with this degree often find themselves employed at a position which acts as an interface between engineering/ production departments and business related areas like sales, marketing etc. Some key job titles can be:

  • Application engineer
  • Automation engineer
  • Business analyst
  • Job cost engineer
  • Manager in Corporate Strategic Planning
  • Manufacturing Development Program Manager
  • Plant manager
  • Product manager etc.

Such courses are often referred to as MEM degrees, i.e. Masters in Engineering Management. Most of such programs are found outside India.
